Muslim boy names, each traced to its source
A son is a gift from Allah, a trust placed in his parents' care, and a life filled with the promise of faith, goodness, and righteous deeds. Allah says, “He grants females to whom He wills, and grants males to whom He wills” (Surah al-Shura, 42:49). Every child is a blessing by His decree, and every parent is entrusted with nurturing that blessing.
The Qur’an gives us the beautiful example of Luqmān, who lovingly counselled his son to worship Allah alone, establish prayer, uphold what is right, and walk through life with humility (Surah Luqman, 31:13–19). And the Prophet ﷺ taught that when a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three, including “a righteous child who prays for him” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1631). The true honor of raising a son lies not simply in carrying forward a family name, but in raising a man of faith, character, mercy, and responsibility.
Choosing his name is one of the first ways parents welcome him into that journey. The Prophet ﷺ said, “The names most beloved to Allah are ʿAbdullāh and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2132). Across generations, Muslim families have also cherished the names of the prophets honored in the Qur’an and the noble Companions who preserved and carried the faith.
